Protecting Cultural Property, Art, and Antiquities of the University Collection

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees planning, coordinating, and managing security operations for the Firestone Library, University Art Museum, Bainbridge House, Campus Art, and other Cultural Property sites on the Forrestal Campus. DPS Cultural Property Security Officers undergo specialized training to help maximize the balance between security technology & physical security. Security officers are responsible for access control, monitoring the video management system, and providing students, staff, and campus partners a safe and welcoming environment. The Cultural Property Security Division comprises a Security Operations Manager, Assistant Security Operations Manager, Head Supervisors, Supervisors, and Security Officers.

Art Museum Security

Officers are stationed throughout the galleries and control room to monitor all activities.

Officers stationed in the control room supervise the Card Access System, Campus Video Management System (CVMS) and Fire Alarm Systems in the galleries and provide badges to visiting staff and docents.  Additionally, officers oversee the control room which also houses the fire alarm and sprinkler system for the Art Museum.

Officers who patrol the galleries rotate between posts, and special exhibitions require a Security Officer to be stationed at all times. The staff is also trained to respond to all types of emergencies in the Art Museum such as fire alarms, first aid calls, and thefts.
