Over 100,000 Calls Processed Annually The Communication Center at 200 Elm Drive oversees the campus’ state-of the-art electronic security infrastructure for Princeton University and is staffed 24/7/365 with trained and certified communications dispatchers. These dispatchers answer calls for service; monitor intrusion detection, duress and fire alarms; provide temporary Princeton ID cards should a student find themselves locked out of their residence after hours; as well as provide other emergency services to our community members, which include answering the many emergency phones on campus. Technology & Certification The Communication Center is also the core for the Card Access System, Campus Video Management System (CVMS) and Fire Alarm Systems. This integrated system improves campus security and enhances DPS response to various alarm-triggered events. Also our Communications Center is a hub for the University's two-way radio system. This system not only manages 800 campus radio users, but also connects DPS to the surrounding law enforcement, fire and medical emergency agencies. All of our Dispatchers are either certified by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officers (APCO) or the National Emergency Communications Institute (NECI), and have certifications/professional designations as Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMD). Our Dispatchers follow the state mandated training guidelines just like other area police dispatchers.
