Welcome to the Department of Public Safety WebsiteA message from the Assistant Vice President for Public Safety Thank you for visiting our website. Our site only offers a small snapshot of our department, staff, service, information, and links to other University departments. We care about the safety and security of our campus community because we want everyone to feel secure while you are on our campus. One of the primary goals of DPS is to develop and maintain strong, lasting partnerships with our community. We call this “community caretaking.” Our community caretaking initiative is a philosophy based on service and problem-solving. For example, officers are connected with various student organizations, residential colleges, athletic teams, eating clubs, and administrative offices. Officers lead crime prevention programs, provide general University information and act as resources. As a department, we continuously strive to provide an exceptional level of service, and I encourage you to provide us feedback to share your experiences with our department.Princeton is a special place for us all, and I hope you enjoy your stay on our campus. Don’t forget, public safety is here to help, so please call us at 609-258-1000 if you need us! Kenneth E. Strother, Assistant Vice President for Public Safety Our Department is About Cultivating Relationships Our main goal, besides keeping our community safe, is to foster trust, understanding, and respect of individual rights and responsibilities. We do more than serve and protect; DPS members have an opportunity to partake in our community members' life-learning process — to teach by example and help people grow. Safety at Princeton is a Partnership While Public Safety is responsible for safety and security on campus, we can’t do it alone. Safety at Princeton is a partnership between our officers and our community. Our professional campus patrol officers, security officers, dispatchers and fire officials provide 24/7 year round safety services and emergency response to the campus. Every member of the DPS staff has received training in community relations, basic crime prevention and may work closely with students as liaisons to many athletic teams, eating clubs, organizations, etc. We Strive for Excellence Our Mission The Department of Public Safety’s mission is to enhance the living, learning and working experience at Princeton University by protecting life, maintaining order and safeguarding property. We fulfill this mission by providing our community with a full range of services that meet the highest professional and accredited standards of campus public safety.
